Romulo Elected New Plantersbank Vice Chairman
Plantersbank chairman and chief executive officer Ambassador Jesus P. Tambunting announced the election of Atty. Ricardo J. Romulo as vice chairman of Planters Development Bank shortly after the bank’s shareholders meeting held recently. Atty. Romulo replaces Jose P. Tambunting who continues to serve as a member of the board of directors.
Tambunting describes Romulo’s new role as an “added dimension in our thrust to guide the SME sector’s role in the expanding business landscape and prepare the sector in its drive towards global competitiveness”. Prior to his election as vice chairman, Romulo was a member of the board of directors for 10 years.
The son of the late Gen. Carlos P. Romulo, he is a senior partner in the Romulo, Mabanta, Buenaventura, Sayoc and De Los Angeles law firm, holds a B.S. Degree (cum laude) from Georgetown University and a Doctor of Laws (JD) degree from Harvard Law School. He is also the current chairman of the influential Makati Business Club.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo appointed Romulo member of the Governance Advisory Council in 2001. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark appointed Romulo Consul General in June 2002. His Holiness Pope John Paul II also conferred him with the Order of St. Gregory the Great (rank of Knight) in 1997.
Plantersbank, the country’s largest private development bank, is backed by prestigious foreign institutional shareholders the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation, Netherlands Development Finance Company and the Asian Development Bank with a combined ownership of over 40 percent of the bank.
