The Business of Events Organizing
The need for events organizers has been steadily increasing in recent years. Personal and corporate events are being professionally managed by this new breed of entrepreneurs.
A few decades back, the bride and groom personally took care of every wedding detail. Today, couples opt to hire wedding planners to f ree themselves from the stress of planning and organizing this big event.
Before, a company’s marketing group handles product launchings, seminars and even family days. Nowadays, events organizers are being hired to allow the marketing group to focus on more important company goals.
Rossel Taberna, proprietor of Outbox Media Production Agency, an emerging player in the events organizing industry, attributes this trend to people’s need for convenience.
“People don’t want to be hassled. Organizing an event takes a lot of time and energy,” she says. “When people and corporations hire professional events organizers, all they have to do is sit back, relax and literally watch the event unfold,” Taberna adds.
Taberna and her friends decided to pool their small savings after college to put up an events company. After a year, when there wasn’t much going on, her friends gave up their stakes making Taberna the sole owner. She singlehandedly financed Outbox Media, starting in a small apartment with just two employees.
Like many first time event organizers, Taberna started with small gatherings. “It was for a debutant from Ateneo. Even though themes were not yet in vogue then, we had one for the party: Marilyn Monroe and black and white.”
“You should be attuned with the trends. What’s hot and what’s in. Clients like that a lot because they want their event to be the first,” she adds.
